First look: The Court at The Caledonian

The Court The Caledonian Edinburgh hotel Cocktail bar new

If there’s one name synonymous with luxury in Edinburgh, it’s The Caledonian. Affectionately known as “The Caley,” this historic landmark hotel, originally opened in 1903 as a grand railway station, has deep roots in the city’s history. Situated at the west end of Princes Street with unrivalled views of Edinburgh Castle, it has welcomed iconic figures from Queen Elizabeth II to President Barack Obama. Fresh from a multi-million-pound renovation, The Caley is now set to unveil The Court—a dazzling new food and drink destination that promises to become Edinburgh’s most sought-after social, entertainment, and dining spot.

Combining vintage luxury with mid-century design, it offers an upmarket social space where locals and visitors alike can gather and celebrate. The Court boasts stunning heritage features, a grand cocktail bar, a lively terrace for al fresco dining, a patisserie, a cosy lounge, and a live music stage. With every experience seamlessly flowing into the next, guests can indulge in a world of art, culture, vibrant menus, and live music from morning to night.

The all-day dining menu at The Court is curated in collaboration with renowned Scottish chef Mark Greenaway, focusing on seasonal Scottish ingredients and locally sourced produce. Known for celebrating ‘uncomplicated favourites,’ The Court’s signature dishes include the fresh Scottish Lobster Roll and their famous 16-layer Carrot Cake, offering a playful twist on a classic.

Guests can also enjoy pastries from the patisserie, including the signature Pistachio Croissant, an innovative take on the beloved almond croissant. The Court will debut its seasonally-themed ‘Timeless Classics’ Afternoon Tea, paying homage to the hotel’s century-old tradition of afternoon tea service.

At the heart of The Court is its cocktail bar, inspired by the iconic 123 steam train that was once the fastest on the Caledonian railways, a nod to the hotel’s origins as a historic railway station. The bar offers an array of signature cocktails, unique serves, and classic Caledonian drinks.

Collaborating with local Edinburgh suppliers, the bar also incorporates sustainable, climate-positive spirits. Guests can enjoy cocktails that evoke the essence of Scotland’s natural landscapes—rugged peaks, crisp rivers, and rich florals—while savoring hyper-local Scottish spirits.
