If your mornings aren’t complete without a perfectly flaky croissant (who could blame you?), then you’ll want to keep an eye on Scotland’s newest competition that’s got everyone buzzing.

The Edinburgh Butter Company has just announced the country’s first-ever croissant contest, and they’re on the hunt for the best of the best. Whether you’re a home baker who’s mastered the art of lamination or a seasoned pro with a passion for pastry, this is your chance to shine!

Set to take place at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh on October 28th, the competition is open to bakers from all over Scotland. The rules are simple: each croissant must be made with The Edinburgh Butter Company’s sheet butter, which is specially designed for creating that perfect, delicate puff. You’ll need to whip up six plain croissants and present them to a panel of judges who know exactly what makes a croissant worth drooling over.

The judging panel is stacked with some of the industry’s biggest names: The Balmoral’s Executive Pastry Chef Ross Sneddon, Darcie Maher from Lannan Bakery, Michelin-starred pastry chef Kayleigh Turner, GBBO winner John Whaite, food writer Milly Kenny-Ryder, and of course, Chloe Black, Director of The Edinburgh Butter Company. They’ll be scoring each croissant on shape, colour, texture, and taste, so this is your moment to put all that butter to good use.

Chloe Black, the mastermind behind this event, says, “We’ve always believed that our cultured butter is the key to the best pastries in Scotland. We’ve heard from so many talented bakers who are passionate about their craft, and we wanted to create an opportunity to celebrate them. This competition is all about showcasing the incredible skills and dedication that go into making a standout croissant.”
