There’s a fresh reason to head to the Royal Mile, and it comes with a side of crispy, golden chips. Landy’s, the latest opening from the Edinburgh-based Vittoria Group, has landed, bringing a modern twist to the traditional fish and chip shop. Naturally, we had to check it out.

Located in the heart of the city on North Bridge, Landy’s combines all the charm of a classic coastal chippy with contemporary style. Inside, the nautical-inspired decor features ropes, anchors, and rich navy and red tones, creating a relaxed but stylish atmosphere. The open kitchen adds a buzz to the dining experience, offering diners a glimpse of the action as their food is freshly prepared.

Edinburgh’s newest restaurant, Landy’s, brings the charm of the seaside to the city with its nautical-themed interiors, featuring rich blues, vibrant reds, and crisp whites spread across two stylish floors.

To start, we ordered the Shetland mussels, steamed to perfection in a creamy white wine and garlic sauce and served with crusty bread. These were an absolute highlight — light, fresh, and full of flavour. Next up were the fish tacos, made with spiced fish and served in soft tortillas with vegetables, guacamole, and tomato salsa. They offered a zesty, modern twist on a seafood starter.

For mains, we opted for the breaded chicken escalope. Served with twice-cooked chips and an (optional) garlic and herb butter, and slaw. The escalope was crispy, tender, and packed with flavour. It’s a hearty, satisfying dish that pairs perfectly with the chippy’s classic sides like mushy peas, curry sauce, or onion rings. We also sampled the Whitby scampi, which featured breaded whole tail pieces served with lemon and tartare — a classic done right.

While these dishes were our choices, the menu offers much more. From traditional chippy favourites like battered sausage, black pudding, and pizza crunch to innovative options like Cajun-spiced haddock, lemon and herb baked haddock, and vegan fish and chips, there’s something for everyone. Heartier dishes include haggis, neeps, and tatties, steak pie, mac ‘n’ cheese, and a daily-changing homemade pie.

Dessert lovers will want to save room for Landy’s sweet options. The deep-fried Mars bar is a must-try for those looking for a nostalgic treat — crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and perfectly indulgent. If you’re after something more refined, the Italian classic tiramisu offers an elegant combination of rich coffee-soaked ladyfingers layered with creamy mascarpone. For those craving a British favourite, the banoffee pie delivers layers of buttery biscuit base, thick caramel sauce, fresh bananas, and whipped cream, creating a sweet and satisfying finish to your meal.

Refreshing cocktails at Landy’s new restaurant on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, including a vibrant Strawberry Spritz made with strawberry puree and tonic, 2024.

The drinks menu adds another layer to the experience. We tried the Strawberry Spritz, a simple mocktail made with strawberry puree and tonic. It was vibrant, refreshing, and perfect alongside the meal. For a tropical twist, the Solero cocktail, with its creamy, fruity profile, is an ideal pick. Other drinks include classics like mojitos, espresso martinis, and a solid wine list, as well as soft drinks and milkshakes for a non-alcoholic treat.
