After two years away, Rioja is making its highly anticipated return to Glasgow next month, now in a new city centre location. And it’s bigger. Three floors, an upstairs restaurant, a late-night bar, and a basement games area. From DJs and Spanish wines to classic cocktails and Iberian tapas inspired by Madrid’s food markets, here’s what to expect.
A fresh space with a familiar energy
Now located at the corner of Hope Street and Bothwell Street, Rioja brings its signature energy to a brand-new setting. It’s set to bring back the warmth and vibrancy of Spain, with a new design and an immersive social vibe. Whether it’s after-work drinks, weekend plans, or a late-night stop, Rioja aims to be a go-to spot for stylish nights out.

What the vibe?
The upstairs restaurant offers a relaxed setting for Spanish dining, while the ground floor bar brings live DJs and expertly mixed drinks. Downstairs, the basement is all about games and live sports, with pool tables and foosball for a lively late-night crowd.
The menu? A curated selection of tapas and street food celebrating the bold flavours of Spain. Think jamón ibérico, croquetas, grilled seafood, and inventive vegetarian dishes. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a long dinner with friends, there’s something for every appetite.

A secret supper club experience
To mark its return, Rioja is launching an exclusive Secret Spanish Supper Club before the official opening. Fans of the original Rioja or Spanish cuisine can sign up at riojaglasgow.com for a chance to be part of the experience.
A new chapter for a Glasgow favourite
Originally opening in 2013, Rioja was a Finnieston favourite until its closure in 2023. Now, it’s back with a fresh approach to Spanish hospitality.
Toni Carbajosa says: “Since closing, not a week has gone by without people asking when Rioja would return. We’ve taken everything people loved—the atmosphere, the flavours, the energy—and reimagined it for a bigger space. This next chapter is all about bringing that same passion for great food, great drinks, and unforgettable nights.”

If you’re searching for new openings in Glasgow, a stylish Spanish bar, or a restaurant with late-night energy, Rioja is set to be a standout destination.
