FERAL is the Edinburgh girls-only night out you’ve been waiting for

In the heart of Edinburgh’s nightlife scene, a new club night is making waves – and it’s strictly for the girls. Enter FERAL, a sapphic, femme-focused space founded by friends Alice, Mizra and Beth. With a mission to create an inclusive, empowering environment, FERAL is quickly becoming a must-attend event for those looking to embrace their wild side. From the music to the atmosphere, it’s all about celebrating femme joy and unapologetic self-expression. We caught up with the founders to hear how FERAL came to life, why it’s more than just a party, and what’s next for this vibrant club night.

The trio behind FERAL: Alice, Mizra and Beth.

How did FERAL come to be? Where did the idea originate?

FERAL came to life as the follow-through on an ambition that all three of us had shared individually. I mentioned to Miz that I’d always wanted to organise a club night for the girlies, and she said she’d had the same dream. Miz also knew that Beth was keen to do something similar, so we sat down and put our heads together. Miz and Beth already had extensive experience working in show production and Edinburgh’s nightlife scene, making them amazing collaborators for this project. Our first night in February was a success, and we’re thrilled with the warm welcome we’ve received. Our next night is on 3rd April – and we can’t wait!

So, who’s behind FERAL? Tell us about the dream team

Absolutely! FERAL is co-founded and co-run by Mizra, Beth and me (Alice). We’re all friends based in Edinburgh, working across different sectors by day. Beth and Mizra bring years of experience in events and show production, and Mizra is also a marketing whizz. Together, we’re a strong mix of creativity, logistics and vision. We wanted to create FERAL as a space for the girls to come together, party, and embrace their wild side in a safe, inclusive environment.

For someone who’s never been, how would you describe a night at FERAL?

FERAL is a night just for the girls. It’s wild, unapologetic, sapphic – hands-down the best place to let loose and express yourself. Our club nights happen every two months at The Mash House, just off Cowgate in Edinburgh. We bring in some of the best Scottish DJs and performers, and our crowd is, of course, absolutely feral.

You mentioned that FERAL is a girls-only space. Can you expand on what that means and why it’s important?

It’s important to clarify that FERAL isn’t simply a “female-only” space – it’s a girls-only space. That distinction matters. It’s for girls, femmes, queers, sapphics, dykes and dolls. If you feel at home in queer femme spaces – or want to – FERAL is for you. No men allowed – it’s not their space. This night is about creating somewhere the girls can be unapologetically themselves, let go, and have fun. Edinburgh lacks spaces like this – and that’s exactly why we created FERAL.

FERAL has built a reputation for its vibe. What makes it so special?

FERAL is absolutely a femme and girly night – from the atmosphere to the music. But beyond the aesthetics, it’s also a safe and inclusive space. We’ve worked closely with The Mash House to develop comprehensive safeguarding policies, ensuring all attendees, performers and staff feel respected and secure. We want everyone to feel comfortable and free to be themselves. And if you’re curious about the sound of FERAL, check out our playlist here!

What’s the vision for FERAL going forward? Any big dreams for the future?

We’d love for FERAL to become a regular fixture in Edinburgh’s nightlife and to grow it as much as we can. The support from The Mash House has been incredible, and the response from attendees has been overwhelming. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us. Long live the girls – and long live FERAL!
