Looking for a new workout? Try this barre and bodyweight fusion class in Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s fitness scene is buzzing with new energy, and it’s not hard to see why. From trendy reformer Pilates studios to barre classes that promise a sculpted physique, the city is embracing a fresh wave of workouts that combine fun and function. Adding to the mix is Lunasecret, the new identity of the well-loved Edinburgh Callanetics, which has been a staple for over 30 years. And trust us, this is one rebrand you won’t want to miss.

Master Trainer Karin MacKenzie is bringing a bold new vision to the studio, blending her decades of expertise with a love for music and dance. Lunasecret introduces a workout that goes beyond the usual; it’s a transformative experience that fuses barre, bodyweight exercises, and dance, all set to the rhythm of carefully curated music. Think of it as your new go-to for feeling empowered, energised, and connected to your body in the most joyful way possible.

“I’ve been teaching Callanetics for 30 years, and while I love it, I’ve always had a passion for music and dance,” says Karin, who has a background in classical ballet. “With Lunasecret, I wanted to bring those elements into the studio in a way that feels fresh, inspiring, and true to my roots.”

Named after her great-niece Luna, who was born under a blood moon, Lunasecret symbolises new beginnings and transformation—perfectly capturing what this rebrand is all about. The new program draws from Karin’s deep love of dance, from classical ballet to hip-hop, Latino, and street dance, all choreographed to energise and empower. And it doesn’t stop at the body; each class wraps up with a calming meditation, making sure you leave feeling centered and renewed.

Karin’s journey in fitness began as a professional dancer, and her expertise as a Master Trainer has helped countless women transform their bodies and boost their confidence. Her signature “Body Blitz” program, known for its powerful toning and reshaping effects, will continue to be a cornerstone of the studio’s offerings. But with Lunasecret, she’s adding a whole new layer of creativity and expression.

“Whenever I hear a new song, I immediately start to imagine the movements and exercises that will bring it to life in the studio,” Karin explains. “It’s like being a chef creating a new dish—the music sets the foundation, and the movements are my ingredients. When done in sequence, it creates a deeply transformative workout that targets all 13 major muscle groups. I can’t wait to share this with the women of Edinburgh and see them fall in love with it as much as I have.”
