Amy Macdonald announces free pop-up performance in Glasgow

Portrait of Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald in a close-up shot. She is leaning slightly forward with her arm resting above her head, gazing directly at the camera. The background is softly lit in purples and greys, and strands of beaded fabric add texture to the foreground.

Cancel your usual lunch plans. Amy Macdonald is performing live in Glasgow this Friday — and it won’t cost you a thing.

To mark the start of her next musical chapter, the Scottish singer-songwriter will play a free, open-air set in Glasgow city centre at 1PM on Friday 25th April. It’s a relaxed, midweek moment to break up your day — and the first time fans will hear songs from her upcoming album Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?, out 11th July 2025.

Her new single of the same name landed earlier this week, premiering on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills show. It’s now streaming everywhere.

Macdonald is kicking things off in a refreshingly simple way — no press fanfare, no stage lights. Just a stripped-back set in one of Glasgow’s most elegant venues: the courtyard at Princes Square, known as much for its architecture as its boutiques.

Expect a mix of new material alongside familiar favourites like Mr Rock & RollRun, and This Is the Life. If you work nearby, it’s the perfect excuse to escape the office early.

Her sixth studio album drops this summer

Amy Macdonald’s new album, Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?, lands on 11th July — her first full-length release since 2020. Alongside it, she’s announced a full UK and European tour, with over 30 dates confirmed and a major hometown show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 12th December.

Tour pre-sale opens Monday 28th April at 10AM, with early access for those who pre-order the album via her official website. General sale begins Wednesday 30th April.

UK tour dates include:

  • 4 Dec – Manchester, O2 Apollo
  • 5 Dec – Birmingham, O2 Academy
  • 7 Dec – London, Roundhouse
  • 8 Dec – Nottingham, Rock City
  • 10 Dec – Newcastle, O2 City Hall
  • 12 Dec – Glasgow, OVO Hydro

Festival slots this spring

Macdonald will also appear at two major UK festivals ahead of the album release:

  • Neighbourhood Weekender – 24 May 2025, Warrington
  • Isle of Wight Festival – 20 June 2025, Newport

It’s shaping up to be a busy summer for one of Scotland’s most distinctive voices — but this Friday’s Glasgow appearance is as intimate as they come.
