100 agave spirits, street food & cowboy boots – why Copita Festival is one of the coolest things to do in Glasgow in May

The Quine team’s cocktail of choice? A margarita, salt rim not sugar. Straight up. So when we heard that Copita Festival– the UK’s leading mezcal and tequila tasting event – is returning to Glasgow this May, we had to tell you all about it.

Whether you can tell your mezcal from your tequila, or you know your Paloma from your Picante, this is your kind of Saturday. Think 100+ agave spirits, the best margaritas in Glasgow, knockout Mexican street food – and yes, maybe even a new pair of vintage cowboy boots. It’s set to be a very good time indeed.

Here’s everything you need to know.

A festival that’s all about the agave

Taking over the beautiful arches of The Briggait on Saturday 10th May 2025, Copita Festival brings a fresh, fun spin to the traditional drinks festival format.

Founded in Glasgow in 2023, it’s Scotland’s first and only celebration of agave spirits – think handcrafted mezcals, small-batch tequilas, and a line-up of producers who are serious about their craft.

Sip, savour, and explore over 100 agave spirits from Mexico’s top producers at Copita Festival.

Across one of two three-and-a-half-hour sessions, guests will take their custom-made clay copita (a traditional tasting cup you get to keep) and explore a huge tasting floor, sampling from over 100 premium agave spirits from top producers.

Beyond the tasting stands, you’ll also find in-depth masterclasses for anyone who wants to dive deeper into the world of agave, plus a pop-up cocktail bar serving signature serves from some of Glasgow’s best bartenders. Whether you’re tasting, learning, or just soaking up the atmosphere, Copita delivers a full experience worth making a day of.

Come hungry – the food alone is worth it

One of Glasgow’s most-loved taco spots, Rafa’s Diner, will be serving food across both sessions. Known for their bold, flavour-packed Mexican dishes and cult following in the west end, they’ll be joined by Teglia Pizza – serving up their signature Roman-style slices – and Berto’s Brownies for when you need a sweet fix.

Whether you’re pausing between pours or heading straight for the food stalls, expect proper dishes that pair beautifully with a spicy marg or smoky mezcal cocktail.

The Cow People pop-up

Also popping up at Copita this year? The Cow People – the Glasgow-based brand known for their vintage cowboy boots that have become a favourite with the baarras crowd.

They’ll be bringing a full rail of one-off pairs, hand-stitched styles, and boots you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a fun extra for anyone who loves a statement piece – and let’s be honest, tequila and cowboy boots just make sense.

Shop Orango pop-up

Alongside The Cow People, Shop Orango will also be popping up inside The Briggait.

Specialising in handmade goods, one-off vintage finds, and carefully curated fashion and accessories, they’re the perfect place to browse between tastings. Whether you’re after a unique piece of jewellery or a standout bag, it’s another brilliant reason to make a full day of it.

Bottles to take home – and big discounts

Before you leave, don’t miss the festival bottle shop, run by Drinkmonger. You’ll be able to use your exclusive discount vouchers to take home something special – whether it’s a bottle of something you discovered on the tasting floor or a long-time favourite.

Expect a huge selection, including brands like 818, Cazcabel, El Rayo, Mezcal Union, El Jimador, Ojo de Dios, and The Lost Explorer. For those looking for something made closer to home, look out for Otro and Whitebox Cocktails, both Scottish brands.

(Please note, brands are subject to change.)
