Looking for things to do in Glasgow this May? Add this to your calendar.

Taking place on Saturday 10th May 2025 at The Social Hub, this one-day fashion event is a collaboration between Scotland Re:Design and SALAD Sessions — and brings something fresh to the city’s creative scene this May.

Bringing together heritage craftsmanship and modern design, the event is set to spotlight Scotland’s evolving role in global fashion. Expect inspiring panel discussions, emerging design talent, and a curated exhibition reimagining one of the country’s most iconic garments: the kilt. Whether you’re a student, stylist, designer or just someone who appreciates good design, this is one of the most exciting things to do in Glasgow in May.

Inside the line-up: talks, talent, and textiles

This debut SALAD Sessions event marks the beginning of a new creative series from Glasgow agency SALAD, whose aim is to curate cultural events that spark conversation and connection. For this first edition, they’ve partnered with Scotland Re:Design, the national platform that champions Scottish fashion and textiles. Together, they’ve created a day of discussion, inspiration, and visibility for the country’s design community.

The programme features two curated panels. The first, From Paris with Love: Scottish Fashion on the Global Stage, highlights Scotland Re:Design’s innovative DYE: WEAVE: PLEAT project — an experimental capsule collection of kilts created by leading Scottish artisans using ancient techniques with a contemporary twist. This groundbreaking collection was showcased at the prestigious Maison d’Exceptions during Première Vision Paris, one of the world’s most respected fashion trade shows.

Three of the designers behind the collection will speak on the panel, sharing how their work was selected to sit alongside textile masterworks from Japan, India and Switzerland — and what it means to bring Scottish design to a global audience without compromising identity or tradition.

The second panel, Woven Into the Future: Crafting Careers in Scottish Fashion, turns its attention to the next generation. From sustainable fabrics to navigating creative careers, this session explores how heritage influences the future — and how young creatives can forge a path in today’s industry. Guest speakers include:

  • Ailsa Lyall, finalist on BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee
  • Lotti Blades-Barret, co-founder of Second Cashmere
  • Belocine Musolo, founder of Nephtali Couture

Together, they’ll unpack how mentorship, innovation, and community are shaping a more inclusive and forward-thinking Scottish fashion scene.

Both sessions are built with accessibility in mind — welcoming anyone who’s curious about where design is headed and how to get involved.

What to expect from the event in Glasgow this May

After the panels, guests are invited to enjoy a relaxed drinks reception and networking session. Whether you’re there to make connections or simply soak up the atmosphere, it’s a chance to wind down with Glasgow’s most stylish crowd.

The reception also marks the opening of the From Paris with Love exhibition — a striking visual showcase created by:

  • Vevar (handweavers, Glasgow)
  • Acme Atelier (bespoke kiltmaker, Forres)
  • Cavan Jayne (colourist, Glasgow)

Curated by Scotland Re:Design, the exhibition blends traditional Scottish textile craftsmanship with bold modern aesthetics. The result? A fresh and exciting interpretation of the kilt that feels rooted in history but ready for what’s next.

Even if you can’t attend the full day, the exhibition will be open to the public for two weeks, offering one of the most unique cultural experiences among events in Glasgow this May.

Speaking about the collaboration, Becky White, Co-founder of SALAD, said, “This platform celebrates Scottish fashion’s global impact while encouraging real conversation about what comes next. We want SALAD Sessions to feel creative, inspiring, and inclusive — this event is just the start.”

With its mix of culture, insight, and connection, From Paris with Love offers one of the most memorable fashion events in Glasgow this spring — and a reason to get dressed up and inspired.
