If you like your workouts low-impact but effective, let me introduce you to Tallie, Scotland’s first Lagree fitness studio. It’s just opened in Edinburgh, and I went along to try it out. It’s got a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, trainers who know exactly how to challenge you without overwhelming you, and a celebrity-approved workout method that really delivers.
What is Lagree?
Basically, it’s very similar to Pilates, but with added intensity. Lagree is low impact yet highly effective, performed on a Miniformer Pro, which looks similar to a Pilates reformer but adds extra resistance. It involves slow, controlled movements that deeply engage your core and build strength. Jennifer Aniston loves it. Michelle Obama swears by it. And now, Edinburgh finally has its own Lagree studio.
My first impressions
London-based fitness instructor Sarah Jaffar is the founder of Tallie, and after chatting with her, I could see why she’s so passionate about it. She first discovered Lagree in London, got certified, and now she’s bringing it to Edinburgh with a space designed for focused, effective fitness sessions in a welcoming environment.

The studio vibes
A chic studio makes every workout better. The Tallie space is a collaborative creation, designed by the award-winning Jeffreys Interiors and built by Nordic Studio. It features high-end Scandinavian furnishings, including custom-made Montana lockers, provided by Nordic Living by Biehl. This bright and energising studio has 14 state-of-the-art Miniformer Pros, a spacious changing room, and communal bathrooms, including a shower, for your comfort.

Tallie’s branding is led by Sloe Studios, an Edinburgh brand experience agency founded by Alix Picken, who has played a key role in shaping both Tallie’s brand identity and its studio aesthetic. The name “Tallie” was crafted by Emma Bryant, founder of The Nameist, perfectly capturing the essence of the Lagree method—where every movement builds upon the last. The hidden tally marks in the studio’s logo bring this idea to life, reinforcing the concept of progress through movement.
The workout
I took a class led by Sarah Jaffar herself, and what stood out the most was how much individual attention she gave to everyone in the room. She took the time to correct our movements, adjust postures, and ensure we were engaging the right muscles. As someone who has done reformer Pilates before, I found Lagree to be a little faster-paced—and let’s just say, I felt a lot more sore in the days after. The slow, controlled movements were really effective, and I could feel my core working in a way I hadn’t before. If you’re a regular gym-goer or new to structured workouts, Sarah and her team provide the guidance you need to feel confident and capable.
Will I be going back?
Absolutely. This was a seriously effective workout, and with its super-convenient central location—just five minutes from Waverley Station by Picardy Place—Tallie is the perfect workout stop whenever I’m spending a day in Edinburgh. 100%.
