It’s not you, it’s your dating app: How this new app could transform the Scottish dating scene

It’s no secret that the current state of online dating is more disheartening than ever. If you’re single, or have single friends, you probably spend a lot of time discussing dating app disasters. You know the script: “They ghosted me”, “They said they want a connection but nothing serious”, or the pièce de résistance: “Turns out they’re married with children…”. Seriously, what is wrong with people? Are they all just bored, lonely, or unfaithful? Well, as it turns out, the answer is yes – bored, that is.

A recent study by data scientists at France’s University of Picardie Jules Verne revealed that nearly half of Tinder users surveyed aren’t actually interested in finding or going on dates. Instead, they’re searching for an ego boost or someone to chat with, leaving those seeking genuine connections feeling frustrated.

But maybe there is hope for love in the digital age. A game-changing new dating app called tbc (standing for to be confirmed) has arrived on the scene, currently exclusively available for singles in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. This innovative app aims to break free from the conventional dating app experience where relationships often begin and end with the words “Hi, how are you?”. Instead the app cuts through the noise (or lack of) by arranging real-life dates.

By encouraging users to take their connections offline, tbc not only takes control of organising the date but also ensures a seamless transition into the real world. The app focuses on facilitating meaningful connections that extend beyond the digital realm, leaving the rest up to you and your date.

In a world where the dating industry is largely controlled by “Big Dating” – dating service giants with massive user bases in a multibillion-dollar industry – it’s truly refreshing to see a small start-up app like tbc taking a different approach by empowering people to develop their connections off of the app.

Unlike other apps, tbc actually arranges the date – all users need to do is record their answers to three voice questions of anyone they like. If there’s a match, tbc arranges the date confirming the time and venue. This distinguishes tbc from the rest, empowering them to create a dating experience that’s all about IRL meeting.

Co-founders Ben Hanney and Niluka Kavanagh with Edinburgh influencer, Lois White.

The masterminds behind tbc, Ben Hanney and Niluka Kavanagh, have already worked their magic in London with a successful pilot, and they have decided to officially launch the app exclusively to Edinburgh. With its unique features and emphasis on genuine connections, tbc has the potential to transform the dating scene and offer a refreshing alternative to the often frustrating world of online dating.

And let’s not forget about safety. In a world where trust is hard to find, tbc takes the lead in organising the dates themselves. This approach may offer a safer dating experience. Users are sent information on when and where to meet, providing an extra layer of security and peace of mind. The voice aspect also makes it harder for catfishes to deceive them, as well as giving a better indication on whether or not they may have chemistry with someone.

As tbc makes its mark on the Scottish dating scene, it has the potential to breathe new life into the pursuit of love in the digital age. With its emphasis on meaningful connections and willingness to challenge the status quo, tbc stands as a game-changer in an industry that typically leaves individuals dissatisfied. So, if you’re tired of swiping through an endless sea of profiles and longing for genuine connection, tbc might just be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Niluka Kavanagh, co-founder, shared her excitement about tbc’s launch in Edinburgh, stating, “The time is ripe for a new approach. Having been single myself, I know how draining online dating can be. It’s now been over 10 years since Tinder launched, so we’re really excited to bring something new to Edinburgh. One that puts the joy back into dating, so people spend more time out on dates than on dating apps. tbc aims to do just that.” With their vision and passion, the founders of tbc are poised to transform the Scottish dating scene and provide a fresh alternative to the frustrations of online dating.

You can download tbc now on the App Store and Google Play Store. Happy dating!
