French brands Scotland

Edinburgh is a city that boasts a rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture and scenic landscapes. But this summer, it also offers a taste of Parisian elegance and glamour, thanks to four brands and experiences that have set up shop in the Scottish capital. Here are some of the highlights of this Franco-Scottish fusion.

Almondine, a French inspired patisserie brand based in the northeast of Scotland – specialising in the most elegant, high-end patisserie and macarons – has opened a new outlet on the forth floor of Harvey Nichols Edinburgh. The new patisserie promises to bring you the ultimate Parisian experience, with fragrant teas, signature hot chocolates, a glass of fizz and of course some of the very best patisserie and macarons Scotland has to offer. The perfect place to catch up with friends, celebrate a special occasion or take home a box of delights.

Why not make a day of it and indulge in some retail therapy? Harvey Nichols is the best place to shop French brands in Scotland. Chanel has launched its first ephemeral boutique in Scotland, showcasing the Métiers d’art 2022/23 collection along with a range of watches, fine jewellery, fragrance, and beauty products. The temporary store occupies three floors of a historic building on Charlotte Square, which has been transformed with Chanel’s signature style. The neo-classical sandstone townhouse features black and beige accents, tweed furniture, contemporary artwork, floral arrangements, and antiques.

This boutique also celebrates Coco Chanel’s connection with Scotland, where she had a long-term relationship with the 2nd Duke of Westminster in the 1920s and 1930s, and drew inspiration from his tweed clothing that he wore on his highland estates to create her own collections. Coco would later begin using it for sporting outfits, suits and coats; and soon her signature tweed emerged.

Lannan Bakery, the latest addition to Edinburgh’s culinary scene, opens its doors on July 29th, just in time for the Fringe festival. Created by Edinburgh bakery Darcie Maher, Lannan will offer an array of signature bakes ranging from classic viennoiserie to custard slices, yum yums, and iced buns. However, the standout item will undoubtedly be their impeccable croissants, made with butter and buttermilk sourced exclusively from The Edinburgh Butter Co

Furthermore, Lannan strives to incorporate local and seasonal produce in their pastry creations, including limited-run treats such as lemon meringue tarts, dauphinoise pastries, and crème brûlée danishes. Savoury pastry enthusiasts can partake in hand pies, pala romana sandwiches with charcuterie and cheese from I.J. Mellis and The Ham & Cheese Co., and top it off with coffee sourced from Edinburgh coffee roasters, Obadiah

Lannan will initially open from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 8:00 am until sell out.
